Today im gonna discuss about the different power and speed of 3 different Internet connections we have here in UNITAR Sabah. First is Streamyx. We have streamyx ADSL bandwidth previously. The good about streamyx is its price is cheaper and affordable compare to other services. The speed is quite okay at non peak hours and you dont need to have expensive router or switch to have this services. Range of bandwidth is from 1 mbps - 2 mbps. Fully burstable up to 180 KB/s. The bad side of streamyx is , streamyx do have downtime. The support is very slow and at peak hours the router almost crack and connection drop to dial-up speed at 50 kbps and the worst part is when your network got infected by virus, your streamyx is totally out. Next im gonna review CELCOM broadband. CELCOM broand is one of the best wireless broadband bandwidth we have here in Sabah. According to the CELCOM officer, the speed can burst up to 7 mbs if you're using the right USB wireless devices. Currently we achieved to get up to 1 mbps but sometimes it does drop a lot and went offline. The good thing about CELCOM is its portable, can bring anywhere and speed is quite okay but the bad part is the connection is not really reliable and since its using wireless protocol bandwidth based on best afford basis which mean sometimes you can burst to 7 mbps but at peak hours connection might be slower than stremyx adsl. Finally we have TMNET Lease Line - The Mother of all Internet Type of Connections in Malaysia
. Most bank, hotel and corporate data centres use TMNET Lease line for their bandwidth. The good thing about Lease Line is, it can burst at full speed download and upload. You have full access to the connection and you can manage your own IP and networks using your own CISCO router. This means, you can control the virus and attacks in your network, in other words you can secure your network compare to ADSL broadband which you only hav partial access using adsl modem. Lease Line allows you to have Static IP in your network. You can host website, corporate email, SYstem Web Server, DNS and many other Internet software and tools. Therefore this is good for company software and Internet communication development. In times of other bandwidth connection is out LEASE LINE IS THE SAVIOR
especially during stdent registration which required high capicity bandwidth transfer. The bad side about Lease Line is , the price is too expensive. If only lease line cost cheaper, we will surely have a btter high speed and secured Internet and LAN connections.
I hope you guys could undestand what im trying to say here. Everything got its own pros and cons, it just a matter of which and how you going to choose and use. Many organisation subscribes bandwidth based on their budget and usage.
But for me i prefer Lease Line + Streamyx = Stable Line HEHE and of course configure bandwidth sharing policy to have equal bandwidth for all user.
